The Black Dog
I often read my cards on the bed as part of my nightly routine. One night while reading, I got the impression of a spirit standing on the ottoman at the edge of my bed. As I focused my "sight," I got the impression of a black dog. He was growling with his teeth bared. The dog had no collar indicating to me that he was a stray.
"What are you doing here?" I inquired. The dog continued to growl in response. I raised an eyebrow to emphasize that I expected an answer. The dog suddenly stopped growling and stared blankly at me. I got the impression that he was lost and a bit scared.
I stood up from the bed, keeping an "eye" on the dog, and headed toward the kitchen. When I saw the dog had yet to follow, I gestured for it come with me. The dog followed warily as I made my way to the kitchen. I grabbed a glass from the cupboard, filled it with water from the tap, and imbued the fluid with a simple consecration.
The dog sat idly and watched as I performed the spell. I went to my front door, opened it, and gestured for the dog to exit. Closing the door behind me, I stepped out on to my front porch and poured the consecrated water into my flower bed. I watched the dog walk over to the flowers, drink as if from a water bowl, and then disappear.
I returned to my cards and never saw the spirit, again.
Much UK folklore associated with black dogs. I had my own experience whilst walking in the Welsh hills. The walk goes past a Neolithic tomb then on across grassland before descending for some distance through old forest. The area is very active magically with old forces at work. After the tomb we were picked up by a large black dog that appeared from nowhere and seemed to shepherd us down the path. When we got too far behind it barked until we got closer.. There was a sense of being watched from the woods, possibly not the most friendly of feelings. Once we got out of the woods onto the main road the dog vanished. Not a sign of it anywhere. Magical or just a dog? Who knows but why was it so far from any habitation, why did it escort us for about two miles and it definitely seemed to have our wellbeing in mind.
