Witch Bells

WITCH BELLS

History Research

Is the history of witch bells what you think?

The Witch bell that was known by witch balls  a type of gazing ball popular in  1700s 1800s.

However they also known as scolds bridles which is a type of muzzle used to punish women accused of being a witch or being to talkative, oh punishment device great dark side.

The bells were used in England, Scotland and Germany between 16th-18th centuries approximately as punishment. Some witch bells had a small metal cage to restict the women's speech further.

Lovely post. I recently visited London, Oxford and Salisbury. So much to see. Id love to come back.

Thank You

Some time ago, two very capable witches encouraged me to share my practice. I found their mentorship extremely effective and the quests I had endured since meeting them transformed my practice. I expressed gratitude and asked if there was some way I could contribute something more than a few pounds a month. They said the best way to return the favor was to share my practice with the community.

As I approach the mysteries of divine magic, I'm finding it more difficult to put the effects succinctly in to writing. I plan to continue my blog, but will post here less often. However, prior to "lift off" I wanted to thank our dear mentors and those in the Thoth community that have read the blog or offered feedback (our Lil, especially).

Take care and good luck on future endeavors.

Goetic Musings

https://lostianvs.dreamwidth.org/9402.html

Inspired by the recent ramble, this is a bit of my own rambling unintended manifesto. No practical content whatsoever, just a collection of random thoughts about modern goetic magic and some signposts from the Greek tradition that I plan to adapt to my own practice in the future.

This is unfortunately a form of magic where I have little practical experience. I've been eyeballing goetic magic from the sidelines for sometime, largely because there doesn't seem to be any agreement on the extent to which one should include Abrahamic rituals.

After years of internal deliberation, I started finding hints of a non-Abrahamic ritual framework ripe for excavation. It will take me some time to explicate it via divination and alternative methods of spirit conjuration. Until then, I might look first to the popular framework which I think of consisting of 4 steps.

You are earthy again like a freshly dug grave 🤣 I am jesting, I mean fresh soil.

Thank you, I have little to no interest in this subject but you sucked me in with

‘Allah, and Christ with bigotry, discrimination, and self-loathing. I just cannot bring myself to call on these gods and mean it. This lack of conviction seems like it could result in a lack of efficacy at best and in dangerous side-effects at worst.’

😁 Nice, I like that. HAIL.

Hunter is an amazing essayist and this prose pulled me into your work like Hunter does for me.

Don't take recommendations from me I also think Crowley's essays are interesting. 🤔😮

I have little to no interest in Aggrippa she says when a leather-bound copy is making its way to me. One of my lovely clients bought me it.

When I say I have no interest I read and I take away what I want. I see the world slightly differently and I got royally told off and told to step into the 3rd for a while to see how it feels.

My copy is literally in pieces. I have no interest in it, despite that I enjoy reading your work.

We have different ideas of what natural magic is, despite this, I enjoy a Saturday ruminating on what you've said. However your style is inconsistent 😁 I try to ignore that.

The Virtues of Venus

Prompt: You have to choose one planetary source of energy to use for all your magical needs for the rest of your life. Which planet do you choose and how do you adapt its power to ALL of your magical needs?

For me, the natural answer to this question would be Mercury. However, as someone with a lot of natural Mercurial talent, I'm not sure sticking to Mercury would be a net benefit. As our dear mentor so eloquently demonstrated, there is virtue in balance, and I tend to agree. Emphasizing my natural talents with Mercury would be like gilding the lily and would probably leave me vulnerable in other realms.

Two obvious compliments to a naturally Mercurial spirit would be Venus and Terra. While I think Terra offers a lot of potential to barter for my magical needs, I find the prospect of Venusian diplomacy…

I think the point of a tree within a sphere is a good point.

It’s also useful saying that something is Venusian Mercurian et al or ect suppose depends on how you see that. 😉

So for example I know something that is reportedly Venusian and is probably the most disgusting grotesque to look at and sense energy I have ever had the unfortunate experience of.

Meanwhile I know a mercurial embodiment who has ears like the FA cup a nose like a ski ramp and I find it’s mind to be positively one of the most beautiful thing I have ever experienced. Although it’s not as intelligent as I would expect from mercury. However we are talking reportedly mercurial not that it is.

On both counts I exaggerate.

Either - Neither of the above things are what my phone thinks they are. I’m referring to a female on both counts.

There are men who think/feel I’m a very sexual energy, but when asked my sexuality is can’t tell me what it is. You could speak to my ex’s (the ones still alive, several I killed off ) and I don’t suppose they could tell you either.

The books used as BOS in the NHBOR episode are Culpepers complete herbal and Parkinson’s Herbal

Completing / updating older texts is often a better way to learn than producing perfect reproductions of spells and rituals found on the internet.

It’s always worth carrying on the work of another witch or magician and using what they have created as a spring board to launch your one journey.

There is so much yet to be added to Culpepers Herbal and some of it is correct and other things written more than a little dodgy these days.

If writing in the margins and conducting your own magical research is a viable option, what are all these grimoire "purists" supposed to do with all that turtle blood?

Salisbury Moot

I got invited to a go and check out a Moot, which isn't that local to me, but when a certain little oracle told me there could be something fishy going on there, I thought it might be fun to make the Trip.

I met two people from our little 'No Holds Barred' community #The-Consultant-Killer and #Little-Delphi and it was nice to catch up with them in-person.

At this Moot there were the usual pagan looking types and although there was no stink of patchouli I'm sure if we got close enough to the mooters there might have been a mild B.O smell 🤢

Instead of joining the mooters we sat on the sofas close by and had some rather more magical conversations rather than talking about Mandalas, or Sylvester Mccoy in Dr Who.

So as you can see the moot is held in a very appropriately looking olde worldly Hotel in Salisbury. I worked in this hotel occasional as relief staff when l was a student 25/26 years ago. It is reported to be haunted both by guests and staff members. I never saw or heard anything much to my disappointment

My best friend V got married in the hotel and she reports she didn't sleep a wink in the honeymoon suite which is supposed to one of the most haunted areas of the hotel. Her husband meanwhile intoxicated slept very well.

Little Delphi has a message.

So Witchcraft Live is lucky to have two ‘beautiful’ funny heroic mentors. Really? Yes, they are warriors. They give up their time and I love them both for it.

Now I don't know about the rest of you

but I have had Liam and Chris burst onto my screen unannounced to save me from magical mischief. I was half dead lying in bed and their they were giving magical resuscitation because of my misadventure.

Yesterday Liam tucked an over-tired wailing. Little Delphi up in her bitch basket at 3 pm and told her to sleep. That is some strong magic. Little Delphi Slept so I guess I owe Liam.

They are being the my true heroes but everyone has their biases.

Do you know the main reason I don’t post much?…imposter syndrome.

I feel like I don’t belong with you proper witches because I’m just a ‘basic witch’ . It’d never enter my head to cast a Saturnian ring around the sun or climb a ladder to Pluto!!

When I see what you proper witches have been doing it makes me feel like a nursery school kid chucked into a uni seminar.

So, I know I should post for C&L and show they’re appreciated and show that I’m actually doing some work but the reason I don’t is because I’m too embarrassed.

As prone as I am to rolling my eyes really, really hard when I hear anything about Ye Olde Wayes, I can see the appeal. It's perceived as a safe place to start: safe in the sense that there is some of the old ways we can verify (even though we here know there's even more from ages past that can't). Also it's very easy to romanticize the past. But more importantly, a serious witch can see what and who worked best and how a practice can be modified for modernity.

But what about future magic? Future deities? Take one of my favorites and yours, the Mesopotamians. Chris and Liam talk about the in The Whores of Babylon podcast, and talk about how it may be when they fully come back. We are still dealing with how their religion was structured in our current religious paradigms, but as the guys…

Re: Ice Cream Cones of Power

I've seen a few books marketed as qkcabballah for witches. I'll admit I had not heard of this one. However given the content of the others, I tend to agree with Liam and expect the system presented to be a watered down version of Agrippa's systemization. The author is apparently a wiccan "high priest" in the Alexandrian tradition. So, the influence of Valiente's liturgies may not be as evident as Chris expects.

All that's beside the point, of course. The original GD was known to entertain multiple outer orders (some more successful than others). It's curious to me that multiple wiccan authors wind up right back at those same rituals and correspondences curated by the GD when exploring the deeper mysteries of their tradition. Almost as if the zombie of Mathers is still lurking in the shadows of modern initiatic traditions.

The books are…

Re: A Crooked Path in the Dark

Any thoughts on the recent episode of NHBW?

Something that stuck out to me were the comments on "observation." I think this is something that's easily missed 👀, even by witches. Now, I'm not a fan of the knitting circles that form around shitting on the youth and so-called "snowflakes", but I do think modern technology (especially smartphones) have stolen valuable "observation" real estate. It's something I personally try to remain "aware" about, especially as it pertains to becoming a slave to the algorithm.

It's probably not a coincidence that many magical and psychic training systems (and even rehabilitation therapies) start with some form of "introspection" and "observation". Assuming some model of reality that can be mapped to classical planets, it makes sense to call the first stepping stone the "Moon."

The Moon is closest to Earth, but has a much better "view"…

To further The Map Makers point the observed is often observing. Chimps in a zoo often copy the behaviour of the visitors and captors.

I know a witch who can manipulate their body language, but they do so in such an obvious way. I also deliberately ignore their prominent body language because they are rude and one manipulates the inept by mirroring their poor skills.

When observing speech and linguistics one should remember that primates can communicate perceived danger.

The division of environmental, semantics, pragmatics and the environmental contexts are important in observation.

In Defense of Unclean Magics

A blog post inspired by the "Clean Magic" episode of the NHBW podcast.

https://www.masterthe.net/post/in-defense-of-unclean-magics

Ponderings:

  1. Which of your past, present, and future selves is responsible for the actions of all the others?

  2. What kind of magics can occur without a human involved?

Cosmic Catastrophe
13 de fev. de 2023

I’ll attempt your first question, which self is responsible for the actions of all the others? It seems to me that the selves are responsible for each other, in that one course of action or a lifetime is a step on the journey, in terms of what has been determined to be necessary for that life in relation to the others, all of them comprising the shadow and solar self.
